Drivers License and Insurance please…

That’s excactly what the police officer asked for as he “blue-lighted” the VBC Bus over yesterday afternoon.  But let me back up and give you the details leading up to that.

As many of you know, the Senior Adults spent a “A Day with Pastor” yesterday on a trip to the north Georgia mountains.  We had a wonderful time eating at an incredible restaurant called Pat’s Country Kitchen and then went to the Mercier’s Apple Orchard.  There were 27 of us and to say the least, it was a very memorable trip.  Although they experienced great food and fellowship and the personal information they learned about my wife and I, the highlight of the trip came soon after we fueled up in Ellijay.  We were just cruising down the road (Bro. Clinton Ayers was driving) and got pulled over by an officer.  My immediate thought was that one of the seniors got a “five finger discount” on their already discounted “senior coffee” at the gas station.  Then it went to the fact that we already had a “police evader” on board (that will remain anonymous in order to protect the innocent)  You should have heard the snickers on the bus as Mr. Officer asked for the SS teacher’s driver license and insurance.  After all was well, we were asked if we just got gas up the road.  Bro. Clinton said yes and then the officer asked him, “Did you forget to pay for it?”  What had happened was, that there was not an outside “card swipe” to pay for the diesel.  It had to be paid on the inside and when I went in to get a water and snack and batteries, I didn’t even think about paying for the fuel.  Since the woman didn’t ask me (which I understand was not her responsability) if I was paying for it, it didn’t cross my mind.  Therefore, we all got on the bus and took off without paying for the $56.37 worth of fuel.  When the Seniors found out what was going on and that it was my fault, the what were “quiet snickers” erupted into all-out, roll in the aisle, slap your knee, tears down the face, stomach hurting LAUGHTER!  You would have thought they would have had more respect than that, but noooooo they got out their cameras and started snapping pictures!  Well, we did go back and pay for the gas (more pictures) and no charges were pressed.  All in all, we had a wonderful trip…one that they will not soon forget.  Our next trip is planned for November 13th and I told them the only way we could top that was maybe to “knock off” off a local bank or something…anyway, if you missed it, your REALLY missed it!  We had a great time and I love that group very much!  Thanks all for going.
