This summer is a proud one for Jimmy and Carmen Phillips. Both of their children are serving the Lord in missions. Their daughter, Bethany, has just left for China and will be there 5 or 6 weeks. This is her first trip like this and covets the prayer of our church family. Pray that God will use her and that she will be sensitive to the Lord’s leading in her life. Pray also for her safety while she is away along with her whole team.
Her brother, Chad Phillips, along with his wife and two children, will be coming back here to VBC preparing for full-time deputation in the Fall. They will be arriving in June from Long Beach, California, where they served with Pastor John Wilkerson for a couple years after graduating from West Coast Baptist College. I am especially proud to have Chad and Linda being sent out of Victory, given the fact he is a product of our youth ministry when I was the Youth Pastor.
Chad and Linda have a heart for the Cambodians and look forward to giving their lives to service for the King in Cambodia. Please pray for them as they relocate in the next couple of weeks and I want to challenge everyone to get to know them if you don’t already. Let’s invest in their lives, not only financially, but emotionally, spiritually, and socially. When they leave for the field, my desire is that a part of us will leave as well, as a result of the relationships that’ll be built. I’ll post their blog and website addresses as soon as they are finalized.
Congratulations Bro. Jimmy and Ms. Carmen, may your hearts’ prayer resemble that of Hannah’s in (1Sam 1:27-2:3 KJVS) For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: (28) Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
(1) And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. (2) There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. (3) Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.

Ever heard the phrase, “Blind leading the blind”? Well, yesterday, that was not just a saying, it was reality. I chalked up yet another dumb mistake.
My intentions were great…take a group of people to the airport with signs and an applause that would wake the dead amongst cheers of celebration and love to welcome a missionary family home for furlough after five years of being on the field. Yes, James and Soraia Allen and family, second generation missionaries to Brazil, are on their way home and we wanted a “welcoming committee” to meet and greet them when they stepped off the plane. Great intention, ey? Well, we had the right flight number, the right time and the right weekday…just the wrong date! Yes, they are not flying in till NEXT Tuesday on United, flight 7201, arriving in ATL at 10:44 AM! Yes, so imagine the feeling I had as I got off the phone (while standing at the top of the escalator at baggage claim with over 20 people, signs in hand, shout in voice cue and expectation in hearts) only to have to tell them I made a terrible mistake.
The group actually handled it pretty well…it didn’t even bother the kids, hey, for them it was a field trip to the airport and they got to see “de plane, de plane” and ride on the bus. I had to think quick….how was I going to make it up to the adults who went? Yes, the answer came also immediately, buy them food!! So, to ease the pain, everyone was treated at CiCi’s pizza and the whole thing has been forgotten! Yeah, right, I saw them twittering and blogging and facebooking almost immediately…oh well, that wasn’t the first really dumb thing I’ve done and I’m sure it won’t be the last, but it will be one that’ll be remembered for years to come.
BUT, the bright side is this…we will have an opportunity next week for everyone to go again…this time on the right date, so please make plans to go down with us to meet the Allens NEXT Tuesday morning. We’ll be leaving VBC promptly at 9:30 AM and would like to have a great showing. Make a sign and bring it with you…we’ll have a great time!

Sunday evening David McCoy will start off three great days of preaching! Services start at 6 on Sunday and 7 on Mon/Tue. If you can’t attend please pray for God’s power on the services. Our people are tired physically and need a touch from the Lord. The spirit is great and morale is extremely high, but the flesh is tired. There will be a battle raging and we want the Victory!

Who would have thought we would have 40 men show up beginning at 6:30 this morning to lay sod?!!! It was awesome and we put 27 or 28 pallets of sod down in record time…I want to personally thank all the men, teens and even the little fellows who helped out tremendously. Honestly it was a humbling sight to see everyone taking “ownership” of our church! What a body of Christ! I love you and am proud of you VBC!
