Consumed!

Bro. Trent Cornwell kicked off the three night meeting with a great message about the characteristics, cause and consequences of rebellion. His challenge…wave the flag of surrender and give God your whole life now!

Pray for Bro. Chad Gordon as he preaches tonight at the second meeting in Alpharetta.

Passionate for Him!

I believe these three men have the potential to impact our generation like never before with their passion for young people. God is using these men in their respective churches greatly and as a former youth pastor it fires me up to know we have men like this leading our youth. CONSUMED!

Consumed…that’s the theme for the teen revival that will begin at VBC this Wednesday night. Corinth Baptist Church Church and Vision Baptist Chruch will also be in attendance with their students and we are praying that God is going to do something very special in the lives of our young people.
Vision Baptist’s Youth Pastor, Trent Cornwell will kick off the three-night meeting by preaching at Victory. On Thursday, Chad Gordon will be preaching at Vision Baptist and on Friday, Corinth Baptist’s own Chad Luke will bring the meeting to a close.
Would you join with me and others in praying for this meeting. Some of our young people and workers have committed to fasting and praying that this will be an opportunity for God to really work in their lives.
“Lord, would you please bless this meeting with protection as the churches travel? Will You please be with each youth pastor as they preach Your Word. Will You direct every word they will utter? Lord, we’re asking You to bless the special music and fun times as well. Most importantly, will You move in a special way in the lives of all who will be in attendance? Lord, may this be the challenge and change someone needs in their life. Please place a “consuming” desire to serve You in our hearts and lives!”

Inauguration Day

Today marks the Inauguration of America’s 44th President. It will be one of the more historic Inaugurations America has seen or will see. It will probably be held as the highest profile Inaugurations ever until or unless a female is elected to the Office.

President-elect Obama will be entering the Presidency under some very grim circumstances. We as a church and the American people need to lift him up in prayer that he will be able to make wise decisions on our behalf. God has always had His way with the rulers of this world. Proverbs 21:1 ?The king?s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.?

This Presidency should be no different in that respect. We need to pray that Mr. Obama will, if given the opportunity, place conservative Justices in the Supreme Court. We need to pray that he will preserve the right to life. We need to pray that he will make the necessary decisions to protect Americans from the terroristic invasions that are inevitable. He also needs our prayer to help make the right decisions concerning the financial elements of America as well as the proper health-care practices.

Personally, I feel like we need less government than more government. I believe America is much stronger when the private sector is playing a larger role than not. The fact of the matter is, our problems will not be answered by any one man’s policies.

We need to make sure our faith is placed in God Almighty and in Him alone! Let me remind you what the Word of God states in…Psalms 20:7 ?Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.?

Regardless of our political or cultural views, it is imperative we recognize the authority that will be placed in the Oval Office today at noon. May God bless Barak Obama and his Cabinet and may we as a nation be drawn closer to the Lord this year than ever before.

Thanks for reading my little political rant.

Vision Night Recap

I realize we’re a few days beyond last Sunday’s Vision Celebration, but I wanted to say a few things about it.

First of all, I wanted to express my appreciation to the staff for the extra hours they put in. Church, we’re blessed to have some wonderful men and women on our staff, all with a heart to serve the Lord. Thank you to all of you.

The spirit of excitement was incredible throughout the entire day, including the evening service and fellowship afterwards.

In the morning service, we had 2 adults baptized and had another family join in the PM service.

We started the evening service with a highlight video you can view by clicking here. Special thanks to Bro. J Hardee for putting it together.

We then gave away several awards and congratulations to all the recepients:
Paul Leslie Award-Darrell and Sue Van Horn
Christian Service Award-Dave and Becky Savage
The Victory Award-Becca Ayers
Christian Servant Award-Bob and Jackie Sewell
SS Teacher of the Year-Jimmy Phillips
Ministry of the Year Award-The Deaf Ministry
Eric Hill Award-Mark Hill

We then unveiled the theme for the year…”Following Him!” and preached a message out of Luke 9:23. I’m very excited about what God wants to do for us as we endeavor to Follow Him!

We finished the night with our annual Chili Cookoff and had several different winners:
Award for Appearance – April McClendon
Award for Best Non-Beef – David White
Award for Hottest – Dallas & Doug Brown
People’s Choice Chili – April McClendon
Best Salsa – Clay Fowler

The Fellowship Hall was literally packed from wall to wall and really emphasized the need for more room.

Honestly, it was a wonderful day and I praise the Lord for each of you.

David Smallwood Preaching next week!

I wanted to let you know that Evangelist David Smallwood will be preaching for us in next Wednesday’s service. Bro. Smallwood is no stranger to most of us at Victory, but if you’ve never had the privilege of hearing him preach, you are in for a treat. Bro. David also has the God-given talent to sing and play the piano and always blesses us with song.

As of late, Bro. Smallwood has began publishing a daily blog. You can read or subscribe to it by clicking davidsmallwood.blogspot.com

Vision Night 2009

I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s services as we take a look at 2008 and the blessings God allowed us to share and then look ahead at some things for 2009.

Traditionally this is the day that I share with the church some of the things God has placed on my heart and the heart of the staff for the upcoming year. Although not all things come to pass like we plan, the fact is, we at least have a plan. It’s been said, “Most leaders don’t plan to fail, they just fail to plan.”

One of the things that didn’t materialize this past year that I hoped would was a Special Needs Ministry. I honestly believe that God will allow us to have one in the future, it just didn’t work out this past year. Pray that God will send the right person(s) with the passion for this type of ministry.

I was also hoping that we might be able to acquire some air time on a local radio or tv station and that has yet to happen as well. If there is anyone with the right connections or resources there, I would love to talk with you.

A third area where we hoped to accomplish more was in our media. We were planning to be able to do a little more in making the services accessible at other times through streaming (video and/or audio) as well as digital recordings and downloads. With the transition to our new auditorium, I feel confident these needs will be met and even exceed expectations.

On the positive side, however, many folks have been saved, baptized and have joined our church. (We’ll give the figures in our annual business meeting) God has met our needs financially as we finished in the black and we didn’t miss one missionary support check. In a year where many of our people had financial setbacks, I praise the Lord for the bottom line. I thank the Lord that our people have been faithful in their giving even though they may not have had as much income as in years gone by. Our people have been faithful in their attendance as well. VBC, God is good all the time, all the time, God is good!

Our theme this past year was “Get Victory in Your Life” and I believe many were able to do just that. I trust the messages and monthly emphases were timely, encouraging and challenging to you and your family.

I love you church and it was an awesome year to serve Him with you!
