Family Travel

On Tuesday my family will be traveling and will be returning on Saturday.  I ask that you pray for safety.  We can never take for granted traveling mercies, as attested by the Ferguson family the day after Christmas when their car rolled down an embankment in the north Georgia mountains.  We praise the Lord that no one was seriously injured and give honor to God for His protection.

Missionary Chad and Linda Phillips

As many of you know, Chad Phillips has answered the call of God on his life to go to the country of Cambodia.  He has already been on two survey trips there, once as a single man and then once with his wife and infant girl.  He has served with Bro. Benefield who established a work there around 5 years ago. Interestingly enough, Bro. Chad was already being challenged by the Lord for the country when he met and then married his wife, whose parents are both from Cambodia.  God has placed a love and burden for the Cambodian people in Chad’s heart and he longs for the day he’ll be able to serve there.

Chad grew up through the ministry of VBC and his parent’s still faithfully attend and serve here at the church.  Chad’s grandfather, Jim Phillips, pastored for many years and now travels and preaches revivals, mission conferences and the like.  Bro. Jim Phillips’ passion is to help train young pastors in the ministry and has just recently finished publishing a book on the subject.

Chad graduated from West Coast Baptist College and faithfully attended and served at Lancaster Baptist Church where Dr. Paul Chappell is the pastor.  Upon graduating, Chad begin serving on staff at First Baptist Church of Long Beach, pastored by Bro. John Wilkerson.  He will be finishing his second year there this spring and will then attend candidate school with BIMI in Chattanooga, TN.

Chad will be the first missionary sent out by Victory during my pastorate, as well as the first one who came through the teen ministry during my tenure there, so there is a satisfaction that I’m enjoying having a small part in the big picture.   I’m very excited about the way God is going to use Bro. Chad to evangelize part of the world for the cause of Christ.  Please be in prayer for his family as they embark on this life calling God has placed on their lives.  He will soon be hosting a blog and I’ll get you that site as soon as it comes online.

Sunday Summary 12.28.08

Well, we had our last Sunday service of 2008 and I’m very grateful for the year we did have.  God blessed us tremendously in so many areas and it is a pure joy to serve Him.

I was very grateful at the number of folks who attended all the services today, including the PM service.  Many folks were still traveling while just as many were down due to sickness.  Please pray that God will touch our families this week and restore health to them all.

It was wonderful to have the Burch Family come forward and make the salvation decision of Mr. Burch public as well as presenting themselves as candidates for baptism and members of VBC.  Praise the Lord for closing out the year this way.

As our custom is, the last Sunday night of the month, one of the staff members preach and Bro. Wayne Sosebee was the preacher for the hour.  As usual he brought humor, encouragement and most importantly a challenge from the Word of God that we all needed.  I appreciate his friendship, dedication to the ministry and love for God.  I count it an honor to have him a part of VBC.

It was also good to have Bro. Chad and Mrs. Linda Phillips, missionaries to Cambodia with us today as well.  We had a very enjoyable dinner following the service tonight.

I just want to thank the church and the Lord once again for a wonderful year of Sundays this year and look forward with great anticipation of 2009.

As a reminder, our midweek service this week will be on Tuesday evening at 7PM.  Don’t miss the final service of the year!  I love you, church!

First Ever Covered Entrance!

img_04041

This may not look like much to the readers that aren’t members of VBC, but for those who are, you’ll understand why I’m posting a picture like this.  For the first time in history at 88 Brand Road, (and for that matter, all former VBC locations I suspect), we’ll be able to drop off our spouses and families with some overhead protection from the elements!  Yes, this is one of two covered entry points on our new auditorium.  This smaller one here is actually the side entrance, which will be the one that our Senior Adults will probably use the most.  Upon entering the building here, they will proceed straight ahead to the elevator, go to the next floor, and upon exiting will be at the entrance of the auditorium or their Sunday School room…what a deal, huh?  (I love our Seniors and I’m out to prove it!)

Since this picture was taken, the complete building has been wrapped, the front drive-thru has been erected, all the roof is now shingled and they started pouring the curbs today.  Brick has been ordered…electricians, plumbers, HVAC and framers are all in full swing.  Things are progressing quickly and we’re very pleased with the process thus far.  Hamby Construction has done us a very good and fair job to this point and we don’t see that likely to change.  Please continue to be in prayer for the main job superintendent, as he is still recovering from his temporary paralysis.  We are told he will be back at the first of the year.

Church, continue to pray that God will fill this building with souls!

Pray for the Minzies

As many of you know, Mrs. Minzie joined our church this past Sunday morning. If you remember, I asked you to pray for her and her family because her husband passed away this year and it would be a tough Christmas. As she joined, she addressed the church in such a beautiful way thanking everyone for their kindness…I even saw several women crying.

Little did we know that on Monday she would suffer a massive stroke that eventually took her life late Tuesday night.

Many of her family is coming in from Jamaica, New York and Florida so pray for traveling mercies. As far as I know right now, the services will be sometime on Tuesday of next week.

Again, pray for the Minzie family as they will be dealing with a double loss today on Christmas.

I will give more details as I am informed.

Merry Christmas!

From my family to all of you we trust your day will be wonderfully spent with family and friends. My wife and I just finished putting together the last item for the kids and have just pillowed our heads, but not before we thanked the Lord for being such a good and gracious God. He has truly blessed beyond anything we ever deserve and we want to praise Him for it.

It’s a wonderful thing to be in the will of God and I’m so glad it’s at Victory Baptist in Loganville!

Merry Christmas!

Sunday Summary 12.20.2008

The Lord really blessed again in Sunday’s services. Even with many people sick and already traveling, we had good attendance in both morning services as well as the evening service. In the second morning service, we had three more families/individuals join…what a Christmas Sunday!

We also had our annual Christmas offering and although I don’t know the total for that yet, I do know that someone called me today and have given $10,000 himself…somebody say it with me, “God is good all the time, all the time, God is good!”

Folks, you just can’t out-give God, and I know God is blessing the faith of those of VBC! Let’s make sure we exercise more faith in 2009 than ever before! Thank You, Lord.

All Wrapped Up for Christmas…

That is the name of our Christmas program and let me tell you, it was wonderful. Bro. Will and his staff have done an outstanding job on the whole thing from the props to the acting to the singing. The choir and orchestra were wonderful as well.

Our first performance was last night (Saturday) and we had the best turnout for a Saturday night performance ever.

The second performance was this morning and it was standing room only. Just the auditorium count was over 450, not including our junior churches and nurseries. Over all, I was told we had around 565 in attendance for the 11:00 hour…thank You, Lord. The sad thing was that we had several cars who could not find a parking space and left the property. This time next year, we will be in the new auditorium and maybe we’ll have plenty of room then.

This was our first time having the program on a Sunday morning and I think it was definitely a good thing. After talking with some of the staff this afternoon, we decided we’ll probably do that again.

The final performance will be in our evening service tonight at 6.

Once again, thanks to all those who participated at any level in this year’s program. The Gospel will be given to hundreds and although I did not ask for a show of hands for salvation decisions, I’m confident there have been many souls saved as a result of your hard work and effort and the Lord blessing it.
Enjoy some of the pictures taken…

Christmas and New Year’s Schedule

I wanted to let all know the service times for the weeks of Christmas and New Year. The midweek services will be held on the Tuesday night of each week. That would be on Dec. 23 and the 30th respectively at 7PM.

I also want to remind everyone of the Annual Christmas offering on the Sunday before Christmas, the 21st.
