Finally!

As many of our church family knows, I have an incredible passion for duck hunting and the day I’ve been looking for finally came on Saturday. Just for your viewing pleasure, here’s what a successful trip in a Georgia swamp looks like…

Two Week Recap

We’ve had an incredibly busy and yet productive past couple of weeks.  I am going to attempt to bring my readers up to speed by posting somewhat of a lengthy recap in one post, so here goes…

We had a great Bible Conference with Dr. R.B Ouellette.  I believe the messages he preached were two very impacting and challenging messages.  Our people were very responsive and faithful to attend each night of service.  My children always appreciate Dr. Ouellette because he always reminds them that “preacher’s kids are special” and rewards them with a $5 bill each. (We break him every year.)

The week proved to be effective as far as souls were concerned as well.  On Sunday prior to the Bible Conference, we had at least five visiting families and we had an adult, a teen and a child saved in the second morning service!  Thursday after the conference, we had another woman saved while making some visits.  It was actually the wife of the man saved on Sunday and we are looking forward to them getting baptized in the very near future.

On Friday night, we had “A Day With Pastor” as 31 of us went to Stone Mountain for the evening.  It was the coldest day of the year so far and I was very skeptical of the Senior Adults making the trip, but they came out with a passion.  We had a wonderful time and it is definitely something we’ll plan for next year as well.

Saturday night the Teen Ministry had a very successful Parent Thank You Banquet in which the young people honored and thanked their parents in a variety of ways

Then this past Sunday was our Thanksgiving Sunday and God blessed in both services again.  We had another adult couple profess Christ as their Saviour!  What a day!

On Monday, the trusses on our building started going up and it’s looking more like a church every day! (I’ll post a pic in a separate blog…they’re on my phone)

This past Tuesday Night we had our mid-week service and had our first Praise and Testimony and Worship Service where our teens did an outstanding job with the music and our people responded very well.  I believe God was really honored with the service and testimonies shared!

Today (Wednesday), I had a funeral to preach and the Lord moved in a great way.  Although I didn’t ask for a show of hands concerning salvation decisions, I know the Lord was convicting and hearts were sensitive to the preaching and invitation time.  God gave me good liberty and only time will tell of the souls.  Thank you church for praying.  I had several texts and emails encouraging and informing me of your prayers.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day and I trust all will have a great time with family and friends.  Happy Thanksgiving, church, I love you.

Birthday Deer

Another birthday…another birthday hunt…another deer! Yes, as our custom is, Cole and I headed out early Monday morning to the Jackson Farm for the annual birthday hunt. It wasn’t long before we were “high-fiving” and busting knuckles over another whitetail taken by a ten year old’s .223!

I’ll be honest with you, I love spending time with my children! Cole and I both agreed, deer or no deer, we were having a great time. I prayed for safety and to see a deer…Cole prayed that he’d kill one…both prayers were answered, but I should have prayed with more faith! The little doe brings his total to 5 deer taken solely by himself, and yes, I am proud of him. We want to thank Bud and Kevin Jackson for allowing us to hunt on their private farm and praise the Lord for another safe and fun day spent together. Happy Birthday, Cole…I love you!

June Butler Home-going

I just left one of the sweetest funerals I’ve ever attended. Bros. Greg and Tim Butler did a very good job honoring their mother and the Lord this afternoon. The auditorium was beyond capacity as many gathered to celebrate the life of Mrs. June Butler. The service was made complete by the various songs played and sung by her grandchildren. What a legacy that was left behind by Bro. Talmadge and Mrs. June Butler…to God be the glory! It was definitely my privilege to have known personally such a godly couple. I would like to extend once again my condolences to the Butler Family on behalf of Victory Baptist, Loganville.

Prayer for President-elect Obama

As I write this piece, all figures point to the fact that Senator Obama will be the next President of the United States.  Truly, this is history in the making.  I champion the fact that anyone in America can hold what some call the “most powerful position in the free world”.  The fact that an African-American will now hold that position is quite remarkable, seeing it was in the same century where there was such a division of race.

To be honest with you, Mr. Obama was not my presidential candidate choice.  I personally voted for Senator McCain and Governor Palin.  I feel strongly like the Republican choices would be the best suited for Christians and the beliefs/philosophies we hold.  That being said, however, it is my duty as an American, and as a Christian, to pray for those in leadership, be it Democratic or Republican.

May I remind you of the thought I shared with our church this past Sunday…regardless of who received this vote, our confidence is not in the President or in Congress, it must be in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

God’s Word tells us in Proverbs 21:1 “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”

Again, God has been, is, and will remain, in control…He’s God!

So, “Lord, Your will be done.  God, I know You are on the throne and control the heart of the kings, princes, presidents and pharaohs.  Lord, would You please direct the heart of Mr. Obama in all his decisions.  Lord, if he doesn’t know You personally, may he do that soon.  Would You protect us from the liberal agenda that is possible through the changes in our government and in particular in our Supreme Courts.  Please awaken the Christian awareness across the country
