Pray for me, I will be closing out the conference on Wednesday night. I really want to be a blessing to Bro. Tim and his church and I’m asking the Lord to really help me do that.
Site plans will be turned into city for approval and permit
Saturday (8th) will be our annual Spring Cleaning Day…more details to come
Sunday (9th) will be the start date of “The Road to Victory” membership training.
If you have joined VBC since the first of the year or are praying about joining in the future, please email the church and register for this training class. (To be held in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 4:45 PM)
A lot of things are happening and happening fast…be praying, planning and expecting God to do great things! What a great place to serve the Lord!
Yes, my wife has gone up with a group of ladies to Gatlinburg, TN for a Ladies’ Conference and you guessed it…I get the opportunity to spend a couple of days with my young ‘uns. I’m looking forward to it however…we’ll order some health food for supper tonight, exercise and then retire for a full night’s sleep. (Translated, that means pizza, playing the Wii to as late as we can stay awake and then falling asleep on an air mattress in the living room! J) The really fun part will be Family Involvement Day tomorrow… I love my family…God has really blessed us. Pray for the ladies’ safety and refreshment.
I want you to be praying for the new series which begins this Sunday. I also want to encourage you to invite someone to visit with you. Let’s make sure we keep our eyes and hearts open to those around us. God puts us in front of different people for a reason…let’s not miss an opportunity He gives us.
People and Christ…isn’t that what the ministry is all about? I say that as I sit here again in the ICU Waiting room waiting on John R. to have his tracheotomy. For 29 days this family has made their way to the hospital each morning to sit with Bro. John…most of those days without even a response from him. Most of us can not even relate to this kind of situation. Folks, it’s at times like this when you realize what’s important in life. Again, people (family) and Christ. One of the things that amaze me is Mrs. Bea’s continued reliance upon the Lord. Continue praying for her and her grandaughter as they continue to shoulder this weight. You know, Christ was so compassionate in His ministry. On those days when we feel like we are too busy to see beyond our own issues or when we don’t think our ministering will matter much, may we be reminded of Christ’s focus and purpose…to seek and to save that which is lost. He was all about people.
Here is the short version of the video interview with Doug K. Obviously Doug was giving answers to a different set of questions. Thanks Doug and Jamie for allowing us to have a laugh at your expense:) There is a full-length version that I will post the link to later. By the way, you don’t want to miss next Sunday as we start with our Get Victory Over the Man in the Mirro series.
I simply love our website. Is it all it’s going to be or all we want it to be yet? No, BUT, we are well on the way! I was just looking at a couple of things on it and thought to myself…wow, that’s a good-looking website with tons of UPDATED information! I want to thank Chad Gordon for doing most of the graphics and work on the website. I also want to thank Phillip Bassham of BaptistWebsites.org for making it happen for us and hosting it. He does a wonderful job and is very easy to work with. If you are looking for a guy who knows websites (and is not afraid to learn more) I suggest you click on his website and hire him…you get more than what you actually pay for, I promise. (sorry, Phillip…I DIDN’T KNOWJ)
Some of the things I would like added to our website in the days ahead…
The preaching messages in a couple of different downloadable formats (mp3, itunes, realplayer, etc)
Our services streamed so we can view them “live”
A secure members area where we can have a pictorial directory and other data for members to share
Sign-up or register here pages for all our activities, fellowships, volunteer needs, etc.
A page where any of our members can upload pictures of activities, services, fellowships, etc that we’ve taken in order to be used on our web page and other publications
A 24 hour “buildingcam” so anybody can go online anytime and see the progress of the new building
A 24 hour “music player” where we could use our home page for our listening pleasure
A “swap and shop” page where we look for things we might want and list things we’re trying to sell
Once a week “live” staff meetings the church can view online
An interactive page that will help us develop the relationships we have with our missionaries
Those are just a few things, but I would love to hear from you. What are some things maybe you’ve seen on other sites or suggestions you have that could enhance our website?
I’ve hesitated putting this on my blog…but hey, it’s my blog, right? You read it right, I am looking for a good treadmill to help my wife get in shapeJ (just kidding, it’s really for me) I’ve been on craigslist looking for one and there is a ton of them on there that people have for sell. As I was perusing them it hit me…if there’s this many people trying to get rid of their treadmill, the odds are someone at Victory has one stuck in a corner somewhere taking up space and would love to have someone come get it. Well, I know of that someone. Seriously, if you have one or know of someone who has one for a really good price call the office and let me know.
I’ve talked about a treadmill, but someone told me that an elliptical trainer was the way to go. Any comments either way would be appreciated. I just want something that will help create a good cardio workout.
Our teenagers, led by our fearless Youth Pastor, Chad Gordon, are heading out early in the morning to Asheville, NC for what we hope, a great “SKI” trip. It’s a risk you always run when you are skiing on the East Coast. You never know what the days will hold that you’ve had planned a year in advance for a trip like this. Hopefully, the weather will cool down and the sky will drop huge flakes of snow…not drops of rain! Regardless of the weather, a well-prepared master youth pastor like Bro. Chad will turn any situation into a memory that will last a lifetime. I love our teens and our youth workers. Pray that the Lord will protect them throughout the entire trip as well as deepen relationships with one another and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Famous quote to remember and beware of…
“Let me hold your poles for a minute…” – a former youth pastor
I’m very please to announce our new Membership course entitled “Road to Victory”. We will be having our first training session beginning at 4:45 Sunday afternoon, March 9th. It is designed for anyone who is praying about becoming a member of VBC. We’ll cover many of the questions you might have as well as inform you of what we’re about and Who we’re about. It is something that we have needed for some time now and I’m excited about it. I will be teaching it personally with my wife being present a portion of the time. We are not sure of the best time or of the frequency so we’ll have to see how all that works out. For right now it will just be a one day session, once a month. Teaching it during Sunday School might would work out better but that would be difficult to do while preaching the first service as well. J I said it is designed for those who haven’t joined yet, however, for this first course, we would like to invite everyone who has joined VBC since the first of the year to be present. (of course you can’t withdraw your membership once you learn a little more about me…it’s a done deal nowJ)
If you are planning on attending, please make sure you email or call the office to sign up. (770.466.4040) I also want to welcome any church member to be a part of the sessions as well. It would be good to have you interacting with prospective members and developing relationships before they even join.
Pray with me that many people this year will travel the “Road to Victory”!
I’m very excited about our upcoming series in March, “Get Victory over the Man in the Mirror”. We’ll be dealing with issues that many of us have probably dealt with for a number of years, yet just ignored them hoping they’d go away. It’s time we deal with those issues and allow God to help us “Get Victory over them!” Make sure you’re inviting someone to come to church with you. We do have one more week of our Get Victory in Your Marriage Series and you definitely do not want to miss this particular week. We will be featuring some never seen before footage of a marriage that quite honestly, will “blow your mind!” It’s a must-see (sorry for those of you that will be in the nursery without screens). We have a very good response from couples this month and I praise the Lord for that.
